The under rug made of cozy wool is the ideal complement to our softshell rain rugs, as it keeps your horse pleasantly warm without causing overheating and reliably wicks away moisture. It provides an additional layer of protection and ncreases the well-being in bad weather conditions of the horse

There are two main areas of application:

Warming: Our Icelandic horses cope well with any weather, but there are two situations in which they appreciate extra warmth:on nights with temperatures below -10 °C and in heavy rain and temperatures below 7 °C, when they still have thin coats in summer or during the transition period. Here, an additional liner protects them from cooling out.

Drying:
If the horse is very sweaty and has to continue drying off at temperatures below freezing, woollen under rugs are particularly effective. They absorb sweat and provide pleasant warmth at the same time.

If you want to put a paddock rug on your wet horse after a cold rain, a wool blanket liner helps to dry the horse quickly even in cold temperatures.

Whether as a warming layer or as a sweat rug under a rain rug - wool under rugs are versatile and adapt to the individual needs of horse and rider.

How does the Liner fit?

The liner was specially developed for use under our rain rug and should only be used for this purpose. We have deliberately designed it to be as simple as possible : To put it on, simply pull it on, as we wanted to avoid pressure points and unevenness under the rain rug - which is why it doesn't need any buckles.

The cut follows the shape of our softshell rain rug, is high-necked and does not rest on the withers. We have also dispensed with a back seam to prevent chafing and pressure points.

For a secure fit the liner can be easily tucked into the belly guard , so that it also sits well at the side. The extra short length ensures that it does not peek out from under the rain cover and stays clean - even in muddy weather.

Which horses need a warm blankets?

For a healthy Icelandic horse, we recommend using the liner only on particularly cold nights or after heavy sweating , and then only in individual cases. It is not necessary to prophylactically blanket healthy Icelandic horses with winter coats in a thicker rug throughout the winter - that would be too warm.

How to care for your Wool Liner

A horse blanket made of wool rarely needs to be washed It is happy if it is aired regularly and if you ensure that it is dried properly. If you want to wash it, you can put it in the washing machine at 30 degrees on the wool cycle. However, hand washing is even safer. We recommend this once a season.
