Our Pad combines extra soft wool loden with real sheep's woven fur and padding made of lavalan® – the best wool fleece from domestic production. It offers optimum horse-friendly properties and ensures a healthy back.

A saddle pad made of wool is ideal for the sensitive back of your Icelandic horse. It keeps the saddle area dry, regulates the temperature in all weathers and promotes relaxation of the back muscles. The anatomical cut adapts perfectly to every horse's back and saddle. Made in Germany.

A pad for sensitive horse backs: The advantages

• Optimum pressure distribution: The pad made of genuine woven fur and new wool distributes the pressure of the saddle evenly over the horse's back, preventing pressure points and pain. This is particularly beneficial for horses with sensitive backs or few muscles.
• Breathability and moisture regulation: The natural material virgin wool draws heat away from the horse's body and maintains the natural body temperature to prevent overheating. Its good sweat absorption leaves the horse with a dry back after work.
• Temperature regulation: The pad ensures that the saddle area remains at a comfortable temperature in all weathers, whether in summer or winter.
• Fit: The pad is anatomically shaped and adapts to the shape of the horse's back. It is essential for freedom of the withers and spine that the pad can be combed open. The pad is also flexible and adapts to the anatomy of the horse and the saddle. It provides padding, but at the same time is not so thick that it negatively affects the saddle fit.
• Animal-friendliness: The genuine woven fur is made from virgin wool, which is obtained by shearing the sheep without the animals having to die. This is an environmentally and animal-friendly alternative to lambskin.
• Long lasting: Woven fur is easier to care for than lambskin as it does not contain any skin that could be damaged. In addition, there is hardly any waste during production, which makes the product more sustainable.

A pad with real fur - What is woven fur?

The real woven fur we use is made from 100% virgin wool, which is obtained by shearing sheep. The shorn wool is cleaned, carded, spun and woven into a fabric. Compared to lambskin, which is obtained by stripping the skin from the animal, woven fur is more environmentally and animal-friendly. It requires no chemical treatment, grows back every year and produces hardly any waste. The fur is manufactured in Germany.

How thick is the pad with fur?

The pad has a total thickness of around 4.5 cm when uncompressed. Under the saddle, it is naturally compressed a little, leaving about 1.5 cm of padding on each side when riding. This thickness provides excellent padding and pressure distribution without compromising the horse's spinal freedom. The half pad and Saddle Pad can also be used in combination

Will the Sportsfreund pad fit under my saddle?

Basically, we can answer this question with yes, as long as it is the shape of a modern dressage saddle/island horse saddle. Up to 18” inches. Overall, we have made the shape rather generous so that the pad cannot be too small.
