Full-neck wool cooler rug for Icelandic horses

Mid-weight, elastic Italian wool fabric and a high-necked, tight fit at the neck and chest are the secure combination for effective sweating. The turtleneck blanket can be closed with a high-end zipper. It is easy to close, stable, stretchy and also a two-way zipper, allowing the cut to be individually adjusted. The well thought-out cut falls generously and therefore fits all back lengths from 115-135, the neck is cleverly positioned and fits thick and thin necks. The rug does not require any buckles or straps - simply throw it on and you're done! If you still want a girth, you can buy one from us.

Is Wool Suitable For A Cooler Rug?

Wool regulates temperature, retains heat, is breathable, dirt-repellent and increases well-being. It is easy to clean and maintain. Due to its protein structure, it also absorbs odors and has an antibacterial effect.

Wool is extremely breathable, i.e. it absorbs water vapor from the body and releases it to the fabric surface. Wool fibers can absorb more than 30% of their own weight in moisture without feeling wet. This makes wool as a Cooler Rug extremely absorbent.

Wool is thermoregulating, this means the horse does not get too warm or too cold when it is worn, and it does not stimulate additional sweating. Wool can keep you warm even when wet.

Cooler Rug: What Size Do I Need For My Icelandic Horse?

The horses length of the back, not its height determins the Rug Size. Our Sportsfreund rug in size 125 fits all Icelandic horses - regardless of size or stature. We have established this from years of experience, as the back length of Icelandic horses differs only minimally.

To measure the exact length, use a flexible tape measure. Measure from the highest point of the withers to the base of the tail - this is the decisive value for the blanket size. The result will be a value between 115 cm and 125 cm. Even if the height of Icelandic horses varies, the back is generally not significantly longer or shorter.

The rug also takes into account the minimal variation in neck length and thickness - there are only slight differences in the cut. These are already factored into the size of the neck piece so that the blanket fits perfectly.

How To Care For A Wool Rug

A horse blanket made of wool rarely needs to be washed It is happy if it is aired regularly and if you ensure that it is dried properly. If you want to wash it, you can put it in the washing machine at 30 degrees on the wool cycle. However, hand washing is even safer. We recommend this once a season.
